Authorities in Machokos County in Kenya have vetoed a child peddling deal where a woman was seeking to sell her two-week-old son for Sh60,000.
The operation carried out in Mlolongo area on Friday led to the arrest of two female suspects including the child’s mother, Diana Mwende, 21.
Mlolongo Assistant County Commissioner, Dennis Ongaga said police laid a trap for the two women after receiving a tip-off from members of the public.
The two suspects were caught red-handed after several officers posed as customers who wanted to buy the infant.
The two were booked to Mlolongo police station pending further investigations into the matter while the baby boy was handed over to a rescue center in Kitengela.
Initial examinations revealed that the child-trafficking syndicate recruit girls below the age of 18 and ask them to pose as house helps, where they then abduct kids.
