Multiple award-winning Hiplife artiste, Kwame Nsiah-Apau popularly known as Okyeame Kwame has asked President Akufo-Addo the kind of research that concluded his decision to reopen schools despite the rise in Covid-19 cases and deaths.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced the reopening of schools in his 21st update on measures taken by his government to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
During his address to the nation, the President announced that schools are to reopen across the country on Friday, 15 January 2021 from Kindergarten to Senior High School while tertiary institutions were to reopen on Saturday, 9 January 2021.
President Akufo-Addo told teachers and students to adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols to avoid the closure of schools again.
“Wear your mask at all times. Wash and sanitize your hands regularly. Protect yourself. Protect each other. Protect your teachers. Protect your parents. But, please do not give me a reason to close down schools again. I pledge to do my best to keep your education going, ” he said.
Many Ghanaians have kicked against the President’s decision which allows parents to send their wards back to school. Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame has also added his voice.
Speaking in an interview with Amansan Krakye, the ‘Yeeko’ hitmaker stated his point when he was asked whether it’s safe for students to go back to school.
He said; “As for this question by your kind courtesy I can’t respond to it because it’s too difficult. This is something that the President himself has said that we should take our kids back to school.
“I don’t know to which extent that they’ve researched to conclude that we should take our kids back to school. So if I should answer your question as to whether it is safe to take our kids to school in the midst of the coronavirus then it means I am an expert in education or health,” he added on Kastle Drive.
“Meanwhile I’m not an expert in both fields so by your kind courtesy please forgive me because I can’t respond.”
