Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Inspector General of Police(IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Western Regional Minister, Kobby Okyere Darko, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and other heads of security agencies have visited the explosion scene that occurred on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Appiatse in the Western Region.

The unfortunate incident occurred after a truck conveying explosive material for a mining company, a motorcycle and a third vehicle close to an electricity transformer collided.

The explosion led to the destruction of some parts of the town and resulted in injuries and death of some residents.

As at 17:00 hours of Thursday, a total of seventeen (17) people have, sadly, been confirmed dead, and fifty-nine (59) injured persons had been rescued, bringing to seventy-six (76) the number of persons known, so far, to have been affected by the tragedy.

Vice President, some Ministers of State and IGP have visited the explosion scene to commiserate with families of the deceased and to wish other victims who were injured speedy recovery.
