Road Transport Operators have finally decided to increase the transport fares by 15 percent.
These new fares will take effect Saturday, February 26, 2022 and it includes fares for shared taxis, intra-city (trotro) and intercity (long-distance).
The coalition had earlier proposed a 30 percent upward adjustment while the government insisted on a maximum of 15 percent increase.
After a series of meetings, the coalition has agreed to increase the fare by 15 percent.
The transport unions are compelled to increase the fares following the price of fuel hikes. According to them, that’s the only way they can stay afloat amid the fuel price hikes.
