The Ghana Police service has reportedly apprehended three (3) persons for displaying and disclosing their votes on Tuesday, December 1st, 2020,
The three (3) unidentified individuals were rounded up by some police officers for publishing their votes on social media after the Special voters cast held yesterday.
Reports published earlier by Adepanews revealed that the Electoral Commission is not keen on such action as it goes against its strict regulations.
“Pictures and videos of ballots cast are against our election regulations,” EC’s Director of Electoral Services Dr Serebuor Quaicoe told Akoma FM on Wednesday, December 2.
He clarified “If you finish and you tell people who you voted for, that is fine but it is an offense for you to take photos of it and be showing it to people. That breaches the secrecy of the ballot. In the view of the law, you can be arrested,”
Mr. Serebour confirmed the covert arrest when he noted that “three persons have been arrested”.
He added, “I will use this your big platform to advise electorates against such acts [during] next week general election.”
Though Adepanews milked some key aspects of the announcement it is unclear what charges will be pressed against these persons.
However, a report from 3news indicates that these individuals have been released on bail.
