Rename Kotoka International Airport after Rawlings – Sonnie Badu suggests

UK-based Ghanaian gospel singer Dr. Sonnie Badu has proposed to President Akufo-Addo to change the name of Kotoka International Airport into late Rawlings’ name.

According to the renowned preacher, renaming the airport after the late former President Jerry John Rawlings is very important and it would be nice to hear his name more often around the world.

The multiple award-winning gospel singer made this known on his social media handle while eulogizing the late President.

He wrote;

“JJ do something before you die” that was the chants!!! You indeed did all you needed to you …. You will always be a role model to some of us. Thank you for all you did for Ghana. Your burial is so beautiful it makes some of us want to work even harder and make the nation proud …… Now dear president, @nakufoaddo How about Kotoka international airport being changed to JJ Rawlings International Airport? In all honesty It would be nice to hear his name more often all over the world at different airports “flight 737 flying to Jerry John Rawlings International Airport Accra, Ghana “ … I know God will touch your heart to do this … just saying.”

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo reading his tribute during the State Burial Service of the late Jerry John Rawlings said the University for Studies(UDS) should be renamed Jerry John Rawlings University of Development Studies despite admitting the former President’s rejection of the idea of naming national edifices after him, he strongly believes he deserves the honor.

“He respectfully declined the honor and offer because of his principle not to have national monuments and facilities named after him.”

“Notwithstanding these sentiments and with all due respect to him, it is my strong belief that such an honor should be accorded him,” he said
