Prisoners Escape After Unknown Gunmen Set Prison on fire

Reports reaching us from Nigeria, Owerri, Imo State has it that some prisoners have escaped after their prison was set on fire by unknown gunmen.

Sources say the gunmen attacked the prison and police department shortly after midnight, freeing a yet-to-be confirmed number of inmates and suspects.

There was heavy gunfire as security operatives reportedly engage the attackers in a gun battle. It’s unclear what transpired but social media accounts suggest thousands of inmates might have escaped.

This development comes after the state Commissioner of Police, Nasiru Mohammed said that he had deployed over 4760 personnel to ensure maximum security during and after the Easter celebration.
