President Akufo-Addo has sent his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives at Akyem Batabi in the Eastern Region.
The 4-storey church building on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 collapsed over 60 worshippers who have converged to pray for their leader, Prophet Akoa Isaac who was in critical condition at the hospital.
First responders, including personnel from the Akim Oda Divisional Police Command, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Ambulance Service, and National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have been racing against time to rescue those trapped under the rubble.
Rescue operations led by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) since Tuesday have seen 18 dead bodies retrieved from the rubble as of Thursday, October 22.
President Akufo-Addo took to his Twitter handle to console the bereaved families, he tweeted;
On behalf of Government and the people of Ghana, I send my deepest condolences to the families of the 15 persons who lost their lives tragically in the church building that collapsed at Akim Batabi near Oda. I wish the 8 injured persons a speedy recovery.
