The Ghana Police Service has issued a statement reacting to the incident that happened at Islamic Senior High School in the Ashanti Region.
We earlier reported that over thirty students of Islamic SHS at Abrepo have been hospitalized after police allegedly opened tear gas on them while protesting over knockdowns in front of the school.
According to reports, the students of the school blocked the road in front of the school as part of their demonstration over frequent road accidents.
Reports added that the police were called to clear the road and disperse the irate students.
Some of the students were said to have gone unconscious and others were left with severe pain as a result of the firing of tear gas at them.
The Ghana Police Service has released a statement confirming the incident.
According to the statement, the police managed to disperse the rioting students and calm has been restored.
The release that some of students and police officers have been taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare is proceeding to Kumasi for a first-hand assessment of the situation.
