Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has spoken after it was reported that parliament has rejected the 2022 budget statement presented by the Finance Minister.

The lawmaker for Suame asserted that the motion of the approval of the 2022 budget moved by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta on Wednesday, November 17 still stands despite the rejection of the Minority Caucus.

According to Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, as far as the Majority is concerned, the rejection of the 2022 budget statement is null and void and has no binding effect on anybody.

He added that the ruling of the Speaker of Parliament affirming the rejection of the “Agyenkwa” budget was wrong.

“That whole procedure was unconstitutional. As far as we are concerned, it’s null and void and has no binding effect on anybody. The motion on the budget as far as we are concerned hasn’t been pronounced on by Parliament, and it’s still standing in the name of the Finance Minister and in the fullness of time, a properly constituted house, not one presided over by the Rt Honorable Speaker will make the decision,” he said.
