The deadline for Mobile subscribers to link their Ghana Card to their SIM cards is looming and only 14, 102,670 people out of the 41, 685,575 total Mobile Subscribers have re-registered their SIM cards.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Communication has warned the public that it will not extend the deadline when it ends on July, 31, 2022.

The exercise was originally scheduled to end on 31st March, 2022 but was extended.

Delivering the Mid-Year Budget review this week, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta indicated that the National SIM Card Re-registration process commenced on 1st October, 2021, less than 50% of the taret has been achieved in terms of capturing.

“Out of a total number of 41,685,575 mobile subscriptions, 23,184,601 SIM cards were successfully linked to the Ghana Card of which 14,102,670 completed the re-registration as at 29th June, 2022.”

Earlier, the National Identification Authority (NIA) said the backlog of unprinted cards, uncollected cards and multi-applications, warrants an extension of the deadline of the SIM re-registration exercise which led to a 3-month extension.

The Head of Administration and Human Resources at the NIA, Cecilia Erzuah believes the extension should be to the end of the year but Communication Minister Ursula Owusu says not again.
