General Secretary of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has kicked against Electoral Commission’s decision to use the Ghana Card as the sole source of identification for the new voters’ registration ahead of the 2024 general elections.
According to the NDC scribe, the party is not against Ghanaians being asked to register for national ID cards or Ghana but everyone has to get it before EC enact laws to use as the only source of identification for new voters’ register.
Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Okay FM, Mr. Nketia said over three million Ghanaians have not registered for the Ghana Card.
According to him, the ruling New Patriotic Party is pushing the EC to use it as the only source of identification ahead of the 2024 elections just to disenfranchise people because they are scared of losing the election.
The EC is planning on making the Ghana Card the sole source of identification for the new voters’ registration ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The Commission had explained that the law would be applied to new voters only and had thus urged yet-to-be-registered voters to acquire their Ghana Cards to register.
