Nigerian government dissolves SARS

Nigerian government dissolves SARS after days of the nationwide protest against the police operation.

Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector-General of Police, made the announcement on Sunday afternoon.

Nigerians, mostly the youths, had taken to the streets of major cities to protest SARS’ brutality while the hashtag “ENDSARS” has trended for days on social media.

According to the Adamu, the dissolution of SARS was in response to the yearnings of Nigerians.

In a statement on Sunday, Muhammed Adamu, inspector general of police, said the unit had been abolished “with immediate effect”, a move that was “in response to the yearnings of the Nigerian people”. He added, however, that all SARS officers would be redeployed to other police commands, formations and units.

Does the Nigerian police mean since January 2018, it never knew the purpose to dissolve SARS?
