A Cape Coast High Court earlier today canceled the 2020 parliamentary election won by National Democratic Congress(NDC) candidate in the Assin North constituency.
According to the court, a fresh election should be conducted by the Electoral Commission in the constituency.
On December 30, 2020, a resident of Assin North, Michael Ankomah-Nimfah, filed a parliamentary election petition at the Cape Coast High Court challenging the eligibility of Quayson to be an MP.
He contended that the MP was not eligible on the basis that at the time he [Quayson] filed his nomination to contest as a parliamentary candidate, he was still a citizen of Canada.
After the ruling, staunch members of NDC in the Assin North constituency stormed the party’s office to register their displeasure about the court’s decision on the dual citizenship of their candidate.
