According to reports received from the Central Region, a Yutong bus carrying 45 passengers has been completely destroyed by fire. The passengers lost valuable properties, such as laptops and mobile phones, in the blaze. However, there were no casualties reported in the incident, as all passengers escaped unharmed, as reported by Kumasi-based Angel FM.
The bus, which had registration number GT 5333-20, was travelling from Takoradi to Kumasi when the mishap occurred at Kyekyewere, a community in the Assin South district of the Central Region.
The driver and passengers noted a suspicious smell of smoke inside the bus and, upon investigation, discovered that the scent was emanating from the vehicle. The driver then decided to stop and ordered the passengers to disembark to enable him to identify and address the issue.
However, moments after the driver used his fire extinguisher to try and extinguish the flame, the bus exploded, resulting in its complete destruction. The passengers, grateful to have escaped the blaze without any injuries, commended the driver for his quick-thinking action.
“We are thankful to the driver for alerting us and directing us to leave the bus. Had he not done so, we would have been caught in the fire,” some passengers stated, according to Angel FM’s reporter.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, and investigations into the incident are currently underway.
