Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has publicized that he will grant amnesty to all small scale miners (galamsey operators) arrested by the Addo-Akufo

government should he be elected into office.

Mahama promises to grant bail to all arrested, jailed galamsey workers

Mr. Mahama made this statement whilst addressing a durbar of chiefs and the people at Adum-Banso in the Western Region of Ghana on October 22, 2020.

The ex President noted that his regime when elected into office will give these convicted galamsey operatives a second chance to better their lives.

“When we come into power, I will grant amnesty to everyone who was arrested for operating in Galamsey. I believe that these operators are remorseful towards any unlawful activities, so we will give them another chance”. He stated

John Dramani Mahama also noted that designated robust policies stimulate the small scale mining sector.

He also vowed to create opportunities in the sector especially to those living in the mining communities.
