Key points from Akufo-Addo’s address that has got many Ghanaians talking about them.

Last night, the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo addressed the nation about some measures it had put in place to help fight the COVID-19.

These 4 main points are an excerpt of his 15th televised address to the nation broadcast on Sunday, August 16, 2020.

1. Akufo-Addo stated that the new voters’ register compiled by the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission is the most credible in Ghana’s history.

According to him, in spite of the concerns surrounding the possible exponential spread of Covid-19 as a result of the exercise, the election management body was able to conduct the process successfully ahead of the polls in December.

2.In his address to the nation on Sunday evening, he penciled down September 1, 2020, as a potential date for the reopening of Ghana’s borders by air.

3. He also has instructed the Gender Minister to provide one hot meal to all final year Junior High School (JHS) pupils and staff of the various schools preparing to write the BECE.

According to him, all 584,000 final year JHS pupils and their teachers across the country are to receive one hot meal each day.

4. He also categorically condemned the violent acts which marred the process at some registration centers in the country.

He described those incidents as “regrettable,” although claiming that they were “isolated incidents” within the largely successful exercise.
