The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has recently reported the arrest of a Kenyan national, who was caught attempting to smuggle cocaine through the Kotoka International Airport.
According to NACOC, the suspect, Njeri Mary, 35, was detained on Saturday, April 15, 2023, during routine checks, upon arrival from a South African Airways flight from Nairobi to Accra via Johannesburg.
The commission confirmed that the cocaine was worth $309,120, with a weight of 11.04kg, concealed in food packages that were detected during the luggage screening process. The commission noted that the confiscated exhibits were being examined by the Ghana Standard Authority for further analysis, while the suspect remains in custody for further investigation and prosecution.
It is worth emphasizing that the possession and transportation of illegal drugs is a punishable offense under sections 40 (1) and 41 (1) of Act 1019 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act 2020.
