Former President and flag bearer of opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), John Dramani Mahama has debunked reports that his wife former First Lady Lordina Mahama will also refund the allowances she received during his era.
We reported earlier today that Ghana’s First and Second Ladies, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Mrs. Samira Bawumia have rejected presidential spouses allowance and decided to refund all the monies paid to them since 2017.
The decision of the two leading ladies of the Republic to refund their allowances is motivated by recent public backlash that has characterized the recommendation made by the Presidential Committee on Emoluments for Article 71 office holders for the First and Second Ladies to be paid allowance as part of the benefits of the President and Vice President.
Well, just after the news went viral that the First and Second Ladies have decided to refund their monies, a letter from nowhere popped up on social media indicating that former First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Mahama is also ready to follow the steps of Madam Rebecca and Samira in refunding the monies she received during her husband’s administration.
But according to her husband, Mr. Mahama in a Facebook post, the viral letter is not from the office of the former First Lady, therefore it should be regarded as fake.
