I never permitted Adwoa Safo to absent herself from Parliament — Bagbin

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin says he never granted permission to Adwoa Safo to absent herself from Parliament.

According to him, rumors circulating that he granted the Dome Kwabenya MP permission to absent herself from Parliament are untrue.

“It is being alleged that I granted an interview to say that Adwoa Safo received permission from me to absent herself from Parliament on health grounds. I want it to be known by all that I have not granted any such interview anywhere. I have not said anything like that anywhere. It is not the Speaker who determines who is present and who is absent.”

The Gender Minister has been slammed by her colleague NPP MPs for absenting herself from Parliament for the past few months.

According to Assin Central MP, Adwoa Safo has refused to return to Ghana and perform her duties as a legislator and Minister for Gender after the ruling party has tried all their best to make her return to Ghana.

Per the constitution and parliamentary procedure, an MP who is absent from Parliament for more than 15 days can be hauled before the Privileges Committee, which can lead to the seat being declared vacant.
