I didn’t mean to kīll Maadwoa: Police Officer begs court

Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, who is accused of shooting dead Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maadwoa, in Adum-Kumasi, has reportedly confessed to killing her because she owed him GH¢5,000, according to the prosecution document read in open court on Tuesday, April 25.

The court session was an emotional one, as police had to call for reinforcement to escort Inspector Twumasi from the premises.

During the proceedings, it was revealed that the accused used a service pistol to commit the crime. Inspector Twumasi has been charged with murder.

Hundreds of people gathered at the Asokore Mampong District Court to witness the proceedings, and many were shocked to hear Inspector Twumasi’s statement: “I have no intention to commit the crime; what happened is between me and God.”

When the judge asked him if he had anything to say, Inspector Twumasi repeated his statement, despite not being allowed to plead guilty or not.

He has been remanded into police custody and will appear again on Tuesday, May 30.
