Heavy Miltary men rushed to Bawku over suspected Jihadist attack in Ghana days after the coup in Burkina Faso.
Reports received by adepanews.com has confirmed the heavy military presence has been spotted in Sapeliga, Pulmakom, and Kulungungu near the Ghana-Burkina Faso border, over a suspected Jihadist attack.
The report further added that the military arrived with their helicopters and various armored vehicles and are patrolling the area for any suspected Jihadist.
Jihadi groups everywhere are opportunistic, adept at exploiting confusion and chaos to further their ideological goals and those from Burkina Faso are no different. For instance, al-Shabaab’s emergence in East Africa came amidst a power vacuum and turmoil from years of civil war in Somalia.
Supt Simon Peter Akabati, Bawku Divisional Police Commander, who confirmed the incidence to Tv3 was heard saying; “I have seen few more Military, not to do with the Bawku conflict but Jihadist or the terrorists filtration from neighbouring countries. So I think this Military can help us to patrol our borders to avoid them from coming to disturb our peace,”
Mr. Abraham Korbla Klutsey, the Executive Director for Youth for Peace and Security Africa (YPSA)has also expressed fear that the coup d’état in Burkina Faso can make Bawku home to terrorists.
He explained because the new Government in Burkina Faso will be brutal with terrorists in the country, many will move through the porous borders to take cover in Bawku.
But the Zugraana of the Kusaug traditional area, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, asked his folks to promptly report any suspicious movement to their traditional areas to the security agencies.
