The Minority Leader and lawmaker for Tamale South constituency, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has explained why the House approved the appointment of Ken Ofori-Atta as Finance Minister.
Mr. Ofori Atta was approved yesterday after both majority and minority reached a consensus.
The Finance Minister returned to Ghana for his vetting following his treatment in the USA for post-Covid health complications. He faced an unprecedented two-day vetting before the Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
His approval comes after the Appointments Committee by consensus recommended his approval to the House.
According to reports, the Minority was planning to reject and abstain from the approval of Mr. Ofori-Atta after their party members berated them over the approval of some nominees.
However, this did not materialize.
In seconding the motion for the approval of Mr. Ofori Atta, the honorable minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu said the support by his side does not necessarily mean they are satisfied with the finance minister’s work.
According to him, the minister must be made to carry his own cross since he has mismanaged the economy for the past four years.
