Ghana’s Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has said that the promise made by Nana Addo-led government during their manifesto launch to provide free WiFi for Senior High Schools (SHSs) if they retain the seat will be launched in October.
The introduction of WiFi in the various SHSs is an initiative implemented by the government to close the gap created in the world of Information Communication Technology (ICT).
Addressing people during the 10th edition of the National Girls in Infiry and Communication Technology (ICT) day celebration at Oti Region on Monday, she said; “As the pandemic broke out, we have seen that the most important aspect of our lives is in ICT. The challenge, however, is the existence of some huge skills gap which we have to check and work on as soon as possible. Government will be launching the free WiFi for senior high schools from next month even though the schools are on break”.
Recall that the Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia speaking during the manifesto launch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in August disclosed that the government will provide free WiFi for SHSs and tertiary schools if they win power in the upcoming general elections.
