Gold Smuggling Case: Sammy Gyamfi accuses Nana Addo’s Office of lies

Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the Presidency of deceiving Ghanaians by demanding an apology from Qatar-based international media organisation Al Jazeera.

Speaking on The Keypoints on TV3/3FM on Saturday, April 29, Gyamfi dismissed the letter circulating on social media, which he said was intended to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians.

“They are just deceiving Ghanaians that the President is angry with Al Jazeera,” Sammy Gyamfi said.

The letter, dated Thursday, April 27, was officially written by the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, to Al Jazeera Network, expressing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s displeasure about a documentary aired on the network.

The documentary had alleged that the President acted as a lawyer for one Mr Alistair Mathias and personally benefited unlawfully from an alleged $100 million state infrastructure contract purportedly awarded to Mr Mathias.

The President’s Executive Secretary, Nana Asante Bediatuo, consequently demanded an apology and a retraction from Al Jazeera.
