Customers of defunct Gold Coast Management Fund has threatened to vote against President Akufo-Addo and his New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the forthcoming general elections if he fails to pay them their lockup funds.
A video sighted by Adepanews.com captures a section of the Gold Coast customers sending a strong warning to the sitting President to pay them before December 7 or face their wrath.
The customers could be seen with placards with the inscription “pay us now or lose the election ”.
According to them, the mode of payment introduced by the Security and Exchange Commission(SEC) is too cumbersome and unfriendly.
A few weeks ago, the government authorized a partial bailout for customers of the remaining affected Fund Management Companies whose liquidation process is in court.
The customers are to receive part payment of up to ¢50,000.
According to the Securities and Exchange Commission, this comes after deliberations with the government regarding an agreed social and humanitarian intervention for all remaining customers of the failed Fund Management Companies.
The decision to make this partial payment is predicated on the government’s commitment to protecting its citizenry and its sensitivity to the plight of affected clients compounded by the disruptive impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, it said in a statement.
