Ghanaians mount pressure on President Akufo-Addo to tweet on EndSARS protest

The EndSARS protests began after weeks of anger and outcry online by the country’s young people over claims of kidnapping, harassment, and extortion by the police unit.

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was a Nigerian Police Force unit under the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police Anthony Ogbizi.

Ghanaians and other social media users have added their voices with a section calling on President Akufo-Addo to comment on the protest going on in Nigeria.

In the past week, the Nigerian youths started a peaceful protest demanding that the SARS be dissolved.

In a live broadcast on Sunday, The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu announced the dissolution and said the personnel in that unit will be redeployed.

However, the youths were not satisfied and continued protesting.

The #EndSARS hashtag has been in the top trends on Ghanaian social media timelines especially on Twitter.

Most Ghanaians are condemning the police and also demanding President Akufo-Addo who doubles as the ECOWAS Chairperson to comment on the happenings in Nigeria.

Some argue that if ECOWAS heads of states can comment on happenings in Mali and even further sanction them, then they must say something on the protest in Nigeria.
