Ghana has spent over $50m on renting aircraft since John Mahama’s era ,Dominic Nitiwul suggested in an interview.
The Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul said the amount was spent in the last 10 years and didn’t get the recent public fume over the president’s travel.
He said on Good Evening Ghana yesterday that
“We are spending more money to charter aircraft that we would have if we had our own aircraft. Over the last 10 years we have spent over 50million dollars to charter aircraft and the Ghana Air force is saying why are you wasting all these money.
“If you have 50million United States dollars to charter aircraft to cater for soldiers only, why won’t you give us that money for us to buy a bigger aircraft.”
MP for North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa last week filed an urgent question in Parliament, raising alarm about the expenses in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s recent oversea travels.
According to him, President Akufo-Addo now charters luxurious private flights from one of the world’s most expensive rental firms for his travels, most recently to France, Belgium and South Africa.
