Expunge Gyakye Quayson’s name from list of MPs – Supreme Court orders Parliament

The Supreme Court of Ghana has authorized Parliament to remove completely the name of James Gyakye Quayson from the list of Members of Parliament.

On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, the apex court ruled that Mr. Gyakye Quayson can no longer hold himself as the lawmaker for the people of Assin North.

Mr Quayson was standing trial for counts of deceit of a public officer, forgery of a passport, knowingly making a false statutory declaration, perjury, and false declaration.

The Supreme Court bench, led by Justice Jones Dotse, determined that Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) flouted the law when it allowed the member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to contest parliamentary elections in 2020.
