EU rejects Ukraine’s request for ‘immediate’ membership

The European Union(EU) has rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s plea for “immediate” membership to the bloc as his country battle Russia.

According to EU officials, Zelensky’s request to join the union cannot be accepted because the procedure takes years.

Ukrainian President Volodymr believes immediate membership of the EU could enable the country get needed support from other European countries both financially and politically as they fight Russia.

However, the European Union has poured cold water on his plea to join the union under a special procedure.

The Union officials stressed that countries wanting to join the bloc typically face a long and complex process that often requires major reforms to reach EU standards.
