E-levy reduced from 1.75% to 1.50%

The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta has reduced the initial percentage of the much-hated Electronic Transaction Levy from 1.75% to 1.50% as part of the amendment of the bill.

The e-levy bill has generated controversy in Parliament since late last year, with the NPP failing to get the bill passed in about three attempts.

With the house almost equal in numbers on both sides, passage of the bill has become difficult since NPP MP for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo has refused to resume parliamentary duty since the beginning of the year and is also allegedly holding her party to ransom.

The Minority in Parliament today staged a walkout to stop short of further having anything to do with the controversial Electronic Transfer Levy Bill.

This was after its Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, said his group still opposes the Levy and called on the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to withdraw it.
