E-levy is theft, not tax — Sammy Gyamfi

National Communications Director of opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi is still against the introduction of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) by the ruling government.

According to him, he doesn’t understand why the Nana Addo-led administration would consider imposing a tax on savings.

He described the E-levy as ‘theft’ not ‘tax’ because there’s nowhere in the world government imposes a tax on savings or capital.

Speaking in an interview with Johnnie Hughes on TV3’s New Day on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, he reiterated that “e-levy is not a tax.” “It is a kind of stealing.”

The introduction of Electronic Levy was announced by Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta while reading the 2022 budget statement in Parliament late last year.

He explained that the e-levy is a 1.75% imposed on all electronic transactions.
