The Federal Government of Nigeria through its Ministry of Information on Friday, June 4, 2021 announced that it has indefinitely suspended the operations of microblogging site Twitter in their country.

The announcement comes after the site deleted President Muhammad Buhari’s tweet.

In Buhari’s tweet, he threatened to fight people in the country’s southeast who he blames for the region’s recurrent attacks on public infrastructure.

“Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,” he tweeted.

The tone of the tweet might triggered the social media platform to delete his tweet.
