Check out what happened when Mahama and Akufo-Addo clashed at Rawlings’ funeral yesterday.
The funeral attracted many statesmen which included Mahama and Akufo-Addo.
An image of President Akufo-Addo and former President John Dramani Mahama went viral and brought joy to the many Ghanaians who saw it.
It was the first meeting between Mahama and Akufo-Addo after December 7, 2020, election which the latter won but the former is challenging the results in court.
In the image, Mahama is seen practically kneeling ahead of President Akufo-Addo as he deeply bows before him.
At the funeral of Jerry John Rawlings who was buried in Accra on Wednesday, Nana Akufo-Addo walked to Mr. Mahama to exchange a few pleasantries before leaving the Black Stars Square where the event took place.
The former President also met and interacted with Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
President Nana Akufo-Addo in his tribute to the late leader described him as charismatic, energetic, and fearless.
“It is for good reason that his well-known and often-cited ideals of probity and accountability, in which he invested a great deal of his political life, are enshrined in the fourth Republican constitution,” said Akufo-Addo.
He said these ideas, together with the “Freedom and Justice,” which form the motto of Ghana, constitute the foundational principles of social order on which Ghana shall develop.
He added that the monumental developments the country chalked “under the governance of Rawlings would linger in the hearts of many generations to come.”
“History, on balance, will be kind to him and will render a positive verdict on his contribution to the evolution of our nation and the entrenchment of its democratic institutions and culture,”
