Bizarre as man survives 11-hour flight by hiding in airplane’s wheel from South Africa to Amsterdam

Bizarre as man survives 11-hour flight by hiding in airplane’s wheel to Amsterdam from South Africa where the flight had earlier started.

Given the freezing temperatures and low oxygen levels, a stowaway’s chances of surviving a long-haul trip are slim but however, Dutch officials discovered a stowaway alive on the nose wheel portion of an Amsterdam-bound cargo plane on Sunday morning.

Authorities believe the guy may have been hidden for more than 11 hours, despite the harsh weather.

The airplane had taken off from Johannesburg, South Africa, and had stopped in Nairobi, Kenya, before flying to Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

Officials are still trying to figure out who the man is since he was brought to the hospital as soon as he was discovered, and they suspect he is between the ages of 16 and 35.

“We were surprised upon finding this man but even more surprised at him being alive after the plane flew over 10,000 [kilometres] in very, very cold temperatures,”

“When the man has recovered and cleared by the hospital, he will then be processed at the Asylum Seekers Centre (AZC) where his status will be determined if he indeed is looking for asylum.”

“It is quite remarkable that the man is still alive.”Royal Dutch Military Police spokeswoman Joanne Helmonds told CNN.
