National Communications Director of opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi has described Vice President Dr. Bawumia as a ‘liar’ for claiming that ICAO has excepted Ghana Card as e-Passport.
Dr. Bawumia announced in November last year at a public lecture at the Ashes University that the Ghana Card would become an e-passport by the first quarter of 2022.
But the NDC, led by its National Communications Director, Sammy Gyamfi, and other senior members, including its head of IT, doubted Dr. Bawumia’s claim and ridiculed him in the media for saying that the Ghana Card would be accepted as an e-passport.
Well, the International Civil Aviation Organizations(ICAO) has stated emphatically that reports circulating on social media that the Ghanaian ID card is equivalent to an ePassport are false.
According to ICAO, it is not their role to certify the use of a State’s Identity Card for international travel in place of a passport.
