Attack on Ukraine: Ghanaian students in Ukraine appeal to Akufo Addo for help

Ghanaian nationals studying in Ukraine have called on President Akuffo-Addo for help after the country was invaded by Russians in the early hours of Thursday.

In the wee hours of Thursday, Russian President, Vladimir Putin announced that Russia has invaded and begun missile strikes against Ukraine.

Dozens of soldiers have been wounded and hurt in the attack.

Some Ghanaian students who are studying in Ukraine have been left stranded and calling on the government to assist them.

The National Union of Ghana Students(NUGS) has also called on the government to take urgent steps and evacuate students from Ukraine and Russia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in a tweet said it was gravely concerned about the security and safety of over 1000 students and other Ghanaians in Ukraine.

It said it was engaging with authorities in Ukraine and other relevant diplomatic missions on further measures.

 

“The Government of Ghana is gravely concerned about the security and safety of our over 1000 students and other Ghanaians in Ukraine and has asked them to shelter in place in their homes or government places of shelter, as we engage the authorities, our relevant diplomatic missions and our honorary consul on further measures” the tweet said.
