Arsenal have reportedly left a £43.5million offer “on the table” for Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey.

The 26-year-old midfielder has become a key figure under Diego Simeone in the Spanish capital.

However, the Ghana international has a release clause in his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano.

And Corriere dello Sport claim he is now “one step away” from a transfer move to the Emirates.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen his squad this summer once the window eventually re-opens.

Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi are already part of the Spaniard’s squad in North London.

Although today’s report says he is still looking for another player to sit in front of his defence.

Partey still has three years remaining on his contract at Atletico, with the club looking to tie him down to a new package.

Having emerged through their youth ranks, the La Liga giants are looking to reward his rise with a pay rise.

And they hope that can help secure his services until 2025 – with a much larger release clause figure inserted into his deal.

Discussing his plans for the transfer window amid the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus outbreak, Arteta recently said: “I’m planning two or three different scenarios that we can face.

“Depending on one of those three, we will be able to do more, less or nothing.

“We have to react daily. We don’t know what the financial situation is going to be, we don’t know the rules, the timing, the window.

“There are so many things we cannot control at the moment.”
