Another attempted coup in Sudan days after Guinea’s was successfully carried out.
Sudan’s military said in a statement read on state television on Tuesday that a coup attempt had been foiled and that the situation was under control.
Interrogation of suspects in the attempted coup was set to begin, and the military would issue a statement soon, according to spokesman Mohamed al-Faki Suleiman.
According to a government source who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the coup attempt involved an attempt to seize control of state radio in Omdurman, across the Nile from Khartoum.
According to the source, precautions were being taken to keep the number of people involved to a minimum. According to SUNA, all those involved had been arrested.
According to a witness, military units loyal to the council used tanks to close a bridge connecting Khartoum and Omdurman early Tuesday morning.
