All sporting activities should be held behind closed doors – Sports Ministry

The Ministry of Youth and Sports in line with the orders of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has directed that all sporting activities in Ghana should be organized behind closed doors without spectators.

This directive from the Ministry is to adhere to the directives of CAF that football matches should be organized behind closed doors in the midst of Covid-19.

“In line with the directives of CAF to organize football matches behind closed doors without spectators in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic spike globally, the Ministry of Youth and Sports directs that all sporting events including the premier football league matches should be organized behind closed doors and without spectators” the statement from the Ministry read.

This directive by the Ministry means that the various stadia in the country will not be open to fans as the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season commences on November 14, 2020.

President Akufo-Addo, in an address to the nation in September, announced that stadia in the country will be open to fans when the new football season commences but only up to 25% of a facility’s capacity with the compulsory wearing of face mask.
