5 fire officers interdicted for allegedly stealing GH¢30K from accident scene by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at the Konongo Fire Station in the Ashanti Region.

After operating at the scene of a vehicle collision that killed the paramount chief of Sekyere Kwamang Traditional Area, Barima Bretwum Okyere Bediako II on December 22, 2021, the five fire officers were reported to have made off with the money.
The rescuers, officers from the Konongo Fire Station, were accused of stealing money and things from Barima Bretwum Okyre Bediako II, the Paramount Chief of the Sekyere Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region.
The interdicted officers have been identified as Sub Officer Raphael Badu Dumfe (the Duty Officer), Fireman (FM) Mensah Yaw Duodu, FM Rex Budu, FM Siale Richard and Assistant Station Officer (ASO) Odjer Jonathan.
The GNFS administration has subsequently promised the public that anybody discovered to be responsible for the theft would be dealt with in line with the Service’s rules and regulations and handed over to the police for prosecution.

The Public Relations Officer of the Fire Service, A.C.F.O. Timothy Osafo Affum, who spoke to Citi News said an internal investigative committee is expected to complete work into the matter on Monday.

“When issues of this nature happen, a board of enquiry is set up. The officers in grave offences like what we have now are interdicted so that they do not interfere with the investigation. If we finish the investigations, and they are found culpable, we will hand them over to the police.”

“If there is no criminality involved, then we will go through our normal processes and give them the punishment [or whatsoever] they deserve.“
