A 26-year-old woman and four other individuals has being arrested by the Ghana Police Service after they attempted to steal twin babies in Sefwi Punikrom in the Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region.
Identified as Paulina Owusu, 26, Stephen Owusu, 32, Sampson Addai, 33, Haruna Yusif, 36, and one other, they were rounded up after the Wiawso Police Command got word that they were about to pull off the heist.
According to the commander of the Wiawso Police command, DSP Christopher Darkey, the woman, before the attempted robbery went to the area where the mother and her twins were to sell fish though they had not seen her there before.
Unfortunately for Paulina, her obsession of selling to only her intended prey was suspicious thus the residents of the community raised an alarm.
DSP Darkey said they laid ambush after the tip-off and luckily Police command maneuvered to successful apprehend these suspects who had come to the house to steal the babies.
The suspects, sensing danger, tried to escape but one person was arrested and the other four were also nabbed afterwards.
He said after the arrest the suspects, they confessed that they were hired by the lady among them to steal the babies for her.
The police also said the incident was the second time the main suspect had been involved in stealing children. The suspects are currently on remand in the Wiawso District Police cells and will re-appear in two weeks.
