As the country of Ghana’s constitution guarantees the right to freedom of speech, expression, and association to Ghanaian citizens, these rights are denied to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender ( LGBT) people as some are coming out of their closets.

On Wednesday 24, February 2021, security forces in Ghana were seen closing down the LGBTQ office. As a result, some LGBTQ followers of the news were expecting the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo to address the nation on the matter. The president breaks his silence by stating, the government will not make same-sex marriage lawful in Ghana.

It will never happen in my time as President…I have said it before, and let me stress it again, that it will not be under the Presidency of Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo that same-sex marriage will be legal’, Akufo-Addo said on Saturday during the installation of the 2nd Archbishop of the Anglican Church held in Asante Mampong.”

With many community leaders debating over the issue of equality over LGBT,  Reverend Kwaku Ansong on Oman Channel on Youtube, addressing his opinion on the issue stated that gay and lesbian will soon take over the country if citizens do not act on it with prayers.

According to him, although LGBT is not legalized in Ghana, due to the hardship in the country and many are walking towards the fast track of wealth, some people will soon sacrifice themselves to be gay and lesbian to be able to acquire wealth.
