A 35-year-old man identified as Dandu Painter allegedly set 39-year-old Kofi Kumi on fire on Wednesday in Sefwi Bekwai, located in the Bibiani Anhwianso Bekwai municipality of Ghana’s Western North region.
According to Emmanuel Sowah, a correspondent for OnuaOnline, the victim’s mother, Yaa Foriwaa, said her son had gone to a nearby community to decorate a dead body and had entered a drinking spot, where he refused to pay for the alcoholic beverage he had consumed.
The drinking spot attendant told her sister in Sefwi Bekwai to retrieve her money from Kofi Kumi, which caused a dispute. The family went to the lady to settle the issue, and she forgave him.
However, the next day, someone had allegedly informed the lady’s husband (Dandu Painter) that Kofi Kumi had insulted his wife and used foul language, causing Dandu Painter to get angry and buy petrol from a nearby fuel station.
Yaa Foriwaa explained that the next information the family received was that Kumi had been set on fire and rushed to Greenshield Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The family is appealing to the Sefwi Bekwai Police Command and the Inspector General of Police to arrest Dandu Painter and bring him to justice. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Sefwi Ahwianso Hospital for preservation.
