2 Police Officers beaten mercilessly by ‘wee’ smokers over GH₵1000 bribe

Two police officers are currently fighting for their lives after being attacked by a gang of ‘wee’ smokers. The officers, popularly known in the community as Owura and Exhibit, reportedly took 1000 Ghana Cedis from the alleged gang, claiming it was a fee to bail out one of the gang leaders who had been arrested for a crime. The officers allegedly claimed they were sent by the Police Commander in the community to take the money.

However, when the gang’s member was not released as expected, the gang went to inquire about the matter from the police command, only to be told that nobody had authorized the community police officers to take the money. This confirmation allegedly angered the gang, who proceeded to attack the officers in their homes.

A video circulating on Adepanews.com showed the gang dragging the officers out of their homes and beating them with dangerous objects. During the attack, one of the attackers accused the officers of being part of their group and leaking information to the police.

The victims, who were admitted to the hospital for treatment, have not been named, but their injuries are reportedly life-threatening.

The Assembly Member of the Abisim Daman Electoral area, Honorable Ransford Osei, who spoke to Angel FM in Kumasi, said the incident occurred in two separate communities, Juaben Asokwa and Juaben Abisim. Six people have been arrested in connection with the attack, while the leader of the gang, Antwi Kofi, remains on the run. The suspects have been identified as Antwi Kofi, Kwame Poku (aka OPK), Kenkey (a lady), Maame Yaa, and three others.
